3.37

贊曰：此有二句，一順世現禮儀、二隨俗求財利。世間尊卑禮儀忠孝，示無與乖。舊云「執持正法，攝諸長幼」，正法者，世禮儀也。示習俗利，方便攝財，濟諸貧乏。舊曰「一切治生諧偶獲利之時，不生喜悅」，大意同也。

Commentary: Here there are two phrases: first, according with worldly customs to manifest propriety and etiquette; second, conforming to secular ways to seek wealth and profit. Regarding worldly status, propriety, etiquette, loyalty, and filial piety, he showed no opposition to them. The old [translation] says: "Upholding the correct dharma, he gathered together the elders and the young." "Correct dharma" means worldly propriety and etiquette. Manifesting engagement in worldly profit, he skillfully gathered wealth to succor the poor and destitute. The old [translation] says: "Whenever engaged in commerce and making a profit, he felt no delight." The general import is the same.
