贊曰：下辭有三，初總陳道屈也。我依律行，教彼息愆，彼說證真，罪種方滅。我謂由身語而得罪除，彼說會心源而方垢盡。理既墮矣，詞亦負焉，故總詞也。

The Commentary says: The declining words below are threefold; first is the general statement of his path yielding. I relied on the Vinaya practice to teach them how to halt transgressions; he spoke of realizing the truth, whereupon the seeds of sin are extinguished. I held that sin is eliminated through body and speech; he stated that only when meeting the source of the mind are defilements exhausted. The reasoning having failed, his words also fell short, hence the general statement of declining.
