贊曰：此請出罪。微小罪中，生大怖畏。既違律行，誠以為恥。願為解除我心所憂、我心所悔，得免罪咎。既罪可出，明非初篇。

The Commentary says: This is the request to expiate the offenses. Even toward infinitesimal offenses, they gave rise to great dread. Having violated the practice of the Vinaya, they truly felt shame. Wishing [for Upāli] to dispel the worry of their minds and the remorse of their minds so that they might escape the fault of the offenses. Since the offenses could be expiated, it is clear that they were not [offenses of] the first class (pārājika).
