The Commentary says: This reveals it to bring about understanding. The explanation according to the principle of emptiness states: Having attained nobility and realized the truth, one knows the mind is originally empty, which is why it is not defiled. Therefore one knows that the mind-nature of sentient beings is originally pure and has never been defiled, being also like this, because mind and emptiness are identical. The explanation according to the principle of conformity to reason states: By taking the mind of causes and conditions of an ordinary being as an analogy for the mind of causes and conditions of a noble, being originally undefiled is also like this, because both share the nature of mind. From this, one knows that unwholesome volition is an offense, which, like an adventitious [guest], exists temporarily, defiling and afflicting the mind; when the wisdom that realizes principle arises, the adventitious offenses are immediately destroyed. Therefore, once the mind has severed delusion, it is called "free from the bondage of association"; when it no longer perceives objects, it is called "free from the bondage of the object of cognition." By being free from the two bondages, it is called "liberation of mind"; because one realizes and penetrates principle, penetrating the principle of the mind is called the "destruction of offenses."
