Commentary: Here there are five clauses. Regarding “arising from cultivating all pāramitās,” the ten thousand practices of the two benefits cultivated by the Bodhisattva all enable the practitioner to reach the other shore, and thus all are called pāramitās. Because [the main ones] are particularly superior in the ten aspects, they specifically receive that name; here, to display the comprehensive meaning, the remaining ten thousand practices are all named “reaching the other shore.” The older [translation] says “upāya.” Regarding the “six abhijñās,” the meaning of the upāya six abhijñās has already been briefly analyzed in the section on majesty. Regarding the “three knowledges”: first, the knowledge of past lives; second, the knowledge of birth and death; third, the knowledge of the exhaustion of outflows. These are identical to three of the abhijñās. Because they destroy obstacles and their wondrous function is hard to measure and their operation is vastly extensive, they are designated by the name “abhijñā.” Because these eliminate ignorance concerning the three times and illuminate profoundly and far, they are further designated as “knowledges.” The bodhipakṣa-dharmas, calming and insight, concentration and wisdom, are all as explained before.
