4.134

贊曰：此釋難由。菩提覺義，一切有情皆有佛性。若勤來者平等皆能隨覺諸法，彌勒當隨覺；慈氏得授記，有情當隨覺，亦應得授記。舊云「一切眾生即菩提相」，以等隨覺即有當來菩提相故，此乃事均俱當證故。

The commentary says: This explains the reason for the challenge. Bodhi has the meaning of awakening; all sentient beings possess the Buddha-nature. If they strive, they are all equally able to conform to and awaken to all phenomena. Maitreya will conform to and awaken to them; since Maitreya received a prophecy, sentient beings will also conform to and awaken to them, and thus should also receive a prophecy. The older version said: 'All sentient beings are themselves the mark of bodhi'; because they equally conform to and awaken, they possess the mark of future bodhi. This is because the reality is equal, and both will equally realize it.
