Commentary: When the two kinds of grasping subjects—of self and of dharmas—apprehend their objects, both are superimpositions. The true principle is not like this; its object does not increase. The older translation says, 'It is non-contemplation because it is free from conditions,' meaning it cannot be contemplated by the conceptualizing mind. The two grasped objects, self and dharmas, can be the operational objects of verbal designation, discrimination, and fabrication. The true principle is not like this; therefore it is bodhi.
