4.268

贊曰：下正降魔。有三：初正降魔；二說諸天女，「語諸女言」下是；三明欲還宮，「時惡魔怨告天女曰汝等可來」下是。降魔有四：一從乞女、二魔驚走、三空聲告、四魔便施。此初文也。勸不施持世迴以與我，明知持世沙門之儀，顯上無垢稽首所以。

Commentary: Below directly subdues Māra. There are three parts: first, directly subduing Māra; second, addressing the devīs, beginning from 'He said to the women...'; third, clarifying their desire to return to the palace, beginning from 'Then the evil Māra, the Enemy, addressed the devīs, saying: "You may come..."'. Subduing Māra has four aspects: 1. Begging the women from him; 2. Māra, alarmed, flees; 3. The voice from the sky speaks; 4. Māra then gives them. This is the first text. Urging him not to give them to Dharaṇīṃdhara but to turn and give them to himself clearly shows knowledge of Dharaṇīṃdhara's deportment as a śramaṇa, revealing the reason why Vimalakīrti bowed his head above.
