Commentary: Below is the detailed answer. There are thirty-five phrases on the joy of the Dharma in total. The older translation has thirty-two phrases, completely omitting three phrases: 1. the joy of non-dependence and non-abiding in cognitive objects; 2. the joy of correctly grasping parinirvāṇa as an object; 3. the joy of skillfully gathering [beings] through skillful means. The other discrepancies will be explained when we come to the text. Furthermore, the words for 'taking delight in' are placed at the beginning of each phrase, and the word 'playful pleasure' is not used. The thirty-five phrases are divided into six: the first three are the joy of encountering a good field [of merit]; the next two are the joy of emerging from suffering and perfect realization (one phrase in the older translation); the next three are the joy of comprehending the illusory (substance); the next ten are the joy of generating the mind [of awakening] and cultivating the practice; the next ten are the joy of abandoning evil and gathering the good (nine phrases in the older translation); the next seven are the joy of benefiting others and benefiting oneself (six phrases in the older translation). These three constitute the joy of encountering a good field, because they surpass and advance beyond adverse conditions. Generating a resolute, pure faith in the three bodies of the Buddha that cannot be destroyed is called 'the joy of an indestructible pure mind'. In the Dharma, one takes joy in hearing, sweeping away [defilements], and upholding it; and amidst the Saṃgha, one diligently performs reverent service. As the sūtra says: 'The appearance of the Buddhas is joyful; the preaching of the correct Dharma is joyful; the harmony of the Saṃgha is joyful; cultivating together with vigor is joyful.' Here, giving rise to the joy of practice toward the good fields differs slightly from that.
