4.31

贊曰：此有二句。一順定修慧，寂止者定，勝觀者慧，止觀二門攝諸功德；二離惡修善，名真出家。空理義云：觀達性空，心常住此，故名止觀。知俗證真，故名斷修。

Commentary: Here there are two phrases. First, according with concentration to cultivate wisdom: 'calm abiding' is concentration, 'superior insight' is wisdom; the two gates of calm abiding and insight embrace all virtues. Second, departing from evil and cultivating good is called true renunciation. The interpretation according to the principle of emptiness states: Contemplating and penetrating the emptiness of nature, the mind constantly abides here; hence it is called calm abiding and insight. Knowing the conventional and realizing the ultimate; hence it is called severing and cultivating.
