Commentary: These are the practices of the three samādhis. Perceiving existing sentient beings, one cannot transform and deliver them, or one's delivering them is not steadfast; contemplating oneself as empty, one can constantly transform them. Therefore, through the mark of transformation, one brings forth emptiness (śūnyatā). Conditioned dharmas possess marks, which agitate and disturb the mind and spirit. To counteract this, one brings forth the cultivation of the signless (animitta). The older translation says "not abandoning the conditioned", which is opposite to this. The bodhisattva constantly takes intentional rebirth according to categories in the realms of desire and form, which is called the mental aspect of taking rebirth through deliberate intention. This brings forth the wishless; originally not desiring rebirth in the three realms is called "deliberate intention".
