贊曰：次九雜修行。力有二種：一思擇、二修習。以將攝受正法行相，而引思擇修習二力。命根有二：一世命根，第八識種；二勝命根，謂慧種子。善修攝事，隨其所應差別行相引此二命。舊文稍別。菩薩持戒，於諸有情心不貢高，如奴如僕、如栴荼羅、如孝子等。故如僕隷，引發無慢。

Commentary: Next are the nine miscellaneous practices. There are two kinds of power: first, investigation; second, cultivation. Through the mental aspect of intending to gather in the true Dharma, one brings forth the two powers of investigation and cultivation. There are two kinds of life-faculty (jīvitendriya): first, the worldly life-faculty, which is the seed in the eighth consciousness; second, the supreme life-faculty, which refers to the seeds of wisdom. By excellently cultivating the four means of gathering (saṃgraha-vastu), through its corresponding differentiated mental aspects, one brings forth these two kinds of life. The older translation differs slightly. When a bodhisattva upholds the precepts, his mind is not haughty toward sentient beings, being like a slave, like a servant, like a caṇḍāla, like a filial son, and so forth. Therefore, being like a servant brings forth absence of pride.
