贊曰：阿練若處者，此云閑寂所，舊云阿蘭若，即離村外二里有餘空閑之處。由住此處，不與物競，得修無諍。故欲通達無諍法相，引空閑處坐。擬求佛智，引發宴坐，宴坐定心能生智故。

Commentary: An "araṇya place" is here rendered as "a quiet and tranquil place"; the older translation called it "aranya", which refers to a vacant, quiet place more than two li outside a village. By residing in this place, not contending with things, one can cultivate non-disputation. Therefore, desiring to penetrate the mark of the dharma of non-disputation, one brings forth sitting in a vacant and quiet place. Intending to seek the Buddha's wisdom, one brings forth peaceful sitting (sitting in dhyāna), because the settled mind of peaceful sitting can generate wisdom.
