贊曰：此答初也。相者狀也。我病不是諸色所攝，不同世病依色變現，故無相狀亦不可見，以是大悲精進逼迫名為病故。此病乃以利樂精進大悲所起，大悲非色。

Commentary: This answers the first. 'Characteristics' means the appearance. My illness is not subsumed under any form; unlike worldly illness which transforms and appears dependent on form, it lacks appearance and is also invisible, because it is called 'illness' through the pressure of great compassion and vigor. This illness arises from the vigor and great compassion that benefit and bring joy, and great compassion is not form.
