Commentary: In manifesting acintya events, from here on is the fourth part: Śāriputra's praise. There are two parts: first, praising the room's ability to accommodate; second, praising the world remaining as before. This is the first text. Question: Earlier it was transformed into something expansive, so the room was no longer small; why does it contradict this now by speaking of a "small room"? Answer: There are two interpretations. 1. The room was not transformed into something large; containing the large by means of the small is called "expansive." Because the room was not large, it is now called "small." 2. The room was transformed into something large, for which there are briefly three explanations: It was transformed into something large by spiritual power, hence earlier it was called expansive; the śrāvakas could not fathom it, so they still saw a small room. Again, speaking earlier of the present outcome, it was called expansive; speaking now of its original state, it is called small. Furthermore, in actual principle it was transformed into something large, so earlier it was called expansive; yet regarding its apparent form they saw it as small, so it is now called a small room, which also does not conflict.
