贊曰：第四，延促任情。文亦有五，此第二正明神變中有二：初明所為、後明神變。有見生死多時相續方能調伏，為延短為長；有見生死少時相續方能調伏，為促長為短。此明所為，彰下神變。

Commentary: Fourth, lengthening and shortening at will. The text also has five parts. In this second part, directly explaining the supernatural transformation, there are two: first explaining the purpose, and later explaining the supernatural transformation. There are those who can be subdued only upon seeing cyclic existence continue for a long time, so for their sake short [periods] are lengthened into long ones; there are those who can be subdued only upon seeing cyclic existence continue for a short time, so for their sake long [periods] are shortened into short ones. This explains the purpose and clarifies the supernatural transformation below.
