Commentary: Below is the answer. There are two pairs: first, clarifying that attachment to dhyāna is bondage and non-attachment to dhyāna is liberation; second, clarifying that having insight without skill is bondage and having skill and insight is liberation. This is the first pair. Attachment to the four dhyānas, the eight vimokṣas, the eight samādhis, and the nine samāpattis is called bondage. Because one relishes the concentration, one does not cultivate the remaining aspects of wisdom to gather beings of existence. If one's wisdom is skillful, one does not abandon dhyāna and the various samādhis, yet as appropriate gathers and benefits the beings of the three realms of existence; and being born into the three realms of existence without coveting and relishing them, this is called liberation.
