5.254

贊曰：三嗟無發趣。雖有大乘之因，乃為聲聞極果所損，已斷煩惱，如燋敗種無復能為。未發心前，自深謙敗，非法華會不記作佛。

Commentary: Third, lamenting having no aspiration. Although having the cause for the Mahāyāna, they were ruined by the ultimate fruit of the Śrāvaka; having already cut off the afflictions, like burnt and ruined seeds they are no longer capable of anything. Before generating the aspiration, he deeply depreciates and faults himself; without the Lotus Assembly, there would be no prediction of attaining buddhahood.
