贊曰：空理義云，下觀真諦本空有情。應理義云：下觀所執本空有情。文分有二：初廣說喻以顯非有、後結前義釋空所由。初中四十三句，舊有二十九句。此有初十。「如有智人」通下諸句。「喻諸菩薩」下逐難釋，餘易可知。觀水聚沫所有前際，前際本無，先來空故。

Commentary: In terms of the doctrine of emptiness, the following contemplates the fundamentally empty sentient beings of ultimate truth. In terms of the doctrine of the rational system, the following contemplates the fundamentally empty sentient beings of imagined nature. The text divides into two parts: first, broadly stating similes to reveal their non-existence; second, concluding the previous meaning and explaining the reason for emptiness. In the first part there are forty-three clauses; the older translation had twenty-nine clauses. Here there are the first ten. “Like a wise person” applies to all the clauses below. “Just as bodhisattvas...” is explained below following the difficulties, the rest being easily understood. Contemplating the prior boundary of a mass of foam on water: the prior boundary is fundamentally non-existent, being empty from the beginning.
