贊曰：答初。有三：初總標、次廣說、後結成。此初文也。慈有三種，如前已說。為有情者，緣有情起，名有情緣慈。說如斯法者，緣法起故，名法緣慈。與究竟樂者，緣如起故，名無緣慈。

Commentary: Answering the first. It has three parts: first, general presentation; next, broad explanation; finally, conclusion. This is the first text. Maitrī is of three kinds, as explained before. Being for the sake of sentient beings arises conditioned by sentient beings, termed maitrī conditioned by sentient beings. Expounding such Dharma arises conditioned by dharmas, termed maitrī conditioned by dharmas. Bestowing ultimate bliss arises conditioned by tathatā, termed objectless maitrī.
