Commentary: The eighth is the answer. What was never attained before is now realized and attained—this is vimokṣa. What was formerly thought to be attained is now seen to have nothing attained—this refers to falsely imagined objects. When realizing the stage of no-more-learning (aśaikṣa), what was previously not attained is now attained, and what was previously grasped as attained is now not attained; hence it is called "attaining that in which nothing is attained." Furthermore, to speak of non-attainment is precisely to have attainment; if one desires to attain, then there is nothing attained.
