贊曰：焰魔者，此云靜息，舊云「閻羅」也。地下過五百由旬，有焰魔王國，其王或不退菩薩所作，或有情為之。凡處焰魔者，多不嚴勝因；菩薩生彼，能集福慧。得無色定寂靜解脫，多樂趣向，彼定彼生。菩薩行彼，不樂定生。

Commentary: "Yama" is translated here as "quieting and ceasing"; the older [translation] rendered it as "Yanluo." Five hundred yojanas beneath the earth, there is the realm of King Yama; its king is either a manifestation of a non-retrogressing bodhisattva, or an ordinary sentient being. Ordinary beings dwelling in Yama's realm mostly do not adorn superior causes; when bodhisattvas are born there, they can accumulate merit and wisdom. Those who attain the formless absorptions and tranquil liberations mostly delight in proceeding toward them, entering those absorptions and being born there. When bodhisattvas practice there, they do not delight in absorption or rebirth.
