Commentary: The third part consists of ten clauses: the practice of cultivating the pāramitās based on obstacles. These are the first two clauses. Though manifesting stinginess, he gives away wealth and status without sparing body or life. Though manifesting violation of precepts, he establishes the pure and cool twelve dhūtas: having few desires means not seeking much; being content means not seeking further. With the eight realizations of great beings and so forth, as well as the four limbs of morality, he sees great dread in minor faults. Dhūta means "shaking off and discarding," because one discards all evils, as explained in the Śrāvakabhūmi and other sūtras. The eight realizations of great beings are as in the Nirvāṇa[sūtra] and the Bequeathed Teaching (Yijiao jing). Endowing the four limbs of morality is as in the Viniścayasaṃgrahaṇī.
