5.547

贊曰：諂曲詐偽令他歡喜，障方便善巧。菩薩雖示諂曲詐偽，而能修習方便善巧，亦令他喜。由憍慢故，多起密語，自恣陵他，起世耶願、障大妙願。菩薩示行憍慢耶願，而成濟度出世橋梁妙願，能為濟拔、能為橋梁，度有情故。如世願言：無病長壽。菩薩亦隨而呪願之，意符出世，為世橋梁。

Commentary: Flattery, deceit, and hypocrisy make others pleased, but obstruct skilful means. Although the bodhisattva displays flattery, deceit, and hypocrisy, he is able to cultivate skilful means and likewise bring joy to others. Because of pride and arrogance, one mostly engages in secretive speech, behaves with self-indulgent insolence toward others, and generates worldly wrong vows, obstructing great and sublime vows. The bodhisattva displays the practice of pride, arrogance, and wrong vows, yet accomplishes the sublime vow to be a supramundane bridge of salvation; for he is able to rescue and able to serve as a bridge, crossing sentient beings over. Just as worldly vows say, "May you be free from illness and have long life," the bodhisattva likewise accords with and invokes these blessings, their intention harmonizing with the supramundane, serving as a bridge for the world.
