贊曰：下廣結成。初廣異生報恩、後廣二乘不能。此初文也。異生能速疾猛利發心修行，頓證成辨佛法；二乘不能。故《涅槃》云「須陀洹八萬劫到，乃至辟支十千劫到。」今說速疾猛利頓發，二乘不能，非全不能。又說決定性不能，非不定性。又說多分不能，非全不能。

The commentary says: Below is the extensive conclusion. First it elaborates on ordinary beings repaying the kindness; afterwards it elaborates on the inability of the two vehicles. This is the first passage. Ordinary beings are able swiftly and vigorously to arouse the mind, cultivate practice, and suddenly realize and accomplish the Buddha-dharmas; the two vehicles cannot. Thus the Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] says: 'The srotāpanna reaches it in eighty thousand kalpas, up to the pratyekabuddha who reaches it in ten thousand kalpas.' Here it is said that they cannot arouse it swiftly, vigorously, and suddenly; it is not that they are entirely unable. Furthermore, it speaks of those of determined gotra being unable, not those of indeterminate gotra. Furthermore, it speaks of the majority being unable, not all of them entirely.
