Commentary: This praises the bodhisattvas. 'Enduring various kinds of fatigue' refers to the painful and vexing matters when benefiting sentient beings. 'Superior, rare, and firm' means that although vexed and troubled by all kinds of affairs, they do not retreat or fail. Surpassing non-Buddhists and the like is called 'superior vigor'. Being rarely encountered in the world is called 'rare'. Being incapable of retreating or giving way is called 'firm'. 'Inconceivable' refers to their urging and striving being profound. 'Great compassion and vigor' is aroused for the sake of beings. The word 'vigor' applies across the preceding meanings: first, superior; second, rare; third, firm; fourth, inconceivable; and fifth, vigor of great compassion.
