贊曰：下第二段，至佛所以陳述。大文有四：初平章欲至、二到已歸禮、三世尊指詰、四聞香怪問。初中復二：初無垢平論、後吉祥答可。此初也。佛遣來問，理合自辨，況加瞻仰而為聞法，應與大眾往佛所耶。

Commentary: Below is the second section, recounting upon arriving where the Buddha was. The major text has four parts: first, deliberating on the intention to go; second, paying homage upon arrival; third, the Bhagavat pointing out and questioning; fourth, smelling the fragrance, wondering, and inquiring. Within the first there are again two: first, Vimalakīrti's deliberation; second, Mañjuśrī's assent. This is the first. Since the Buddha had dispatched him to inquire [after the illness], reason dictates that he should go to explain himself; all the more so, with yearning respect to hear the Dharma, ought he not go with the great assembly to where the Buddha was?
