贊曰：第四聞香怪問。有四：初阿難驚疑難、二鶖子傍通、三問住久如、四歎陳佛事。初中有二：初阿難疑問、後世尊正答。此疑問也。

Commentary: Fourth, smelling the fragrance, wondering, and inquiring. There are four parts: 1. Ānanda's startled doubt and questioning, 2. Śāriputra's lateral clarification, 3. inquiring how long it will remain, 4. praising and recounting the Buddha's work. Within the first there are two: first, Ānanda's doubtful question; second, the Bhagavat's direct answer. This is the doubtful question.
