Commentary: This shows that all movement and stillness are beneficial. Walking, standing, sitting, and lying down are called comportment. Going or staying is called advancing and pausing. Cognizing and experiencing various objects is called enjoyment. Whatever is undertaken and done is called action. Not being able to speak of them extensively, to speak in brief: all such categories cause the transformed to be disciplined—training them to generate and grow what is good, and subduing them to sever what is evil; therefore all are called Buddha-deeds. Just as when asking Ānanda whether it will rain today: knowing yet asking is because [the Buddha] wishes to cause other people to examine matters carefully. If even the Buddha, who knows, still asks, how much more so for us! Therefore all are Buddha-deeds.
