贊曰：下品第三段，菩薩讚請以歸還。有三：初讚悔請法、次佛為廣說、後歡喜供養讚德而還。初中有二：初讚悔、後請法。初中復二：初標、後釋。此初也。本在香城，見穢下想。今聞妙理，生悔愧心。本謂釋迦身卑土穢，生下劣想，謂下劣於妙香佛界。何知今者佛身內德及實淨土本來平等，為有情現身土不同。故悔前心，而生後愧。

The Commentary says: The third section of this chapter is the bodhisattvas praising, requesting [teachings], and returning. There are three parts: first, praising, repenting, and requesting the Dharma; next, the Buddha expounding it at length for them; finally, rejoicing, making offerings, praising virtues, and returning. The first contains two parts: first, praising and repenting; next, requesting the Dharma. The first also contains two: first, the statement; next, the explanation. This is the first [part]. Originally being in the Fragrant City, they had conceived thoughts of impurity and inferiority. Now hearing this wondrous principle, they gave rise to a mind of repentance and shame. Originally they thought Śākyamuni's body was lowly and his land impure, giving rise to thoughts of inferiority, thinking it was inferior to the Buddha-realm of Wonderful Fragrance. How could they have known that the Buddha's body, internal virtues, and true pure land are originally equal, and that different bodies and lands are manifested for the sake of sentient beings? Therefore, they repented their former thought and gave rise to subsequent shame.
