6.524

贊曰：二佛命現。何故如來不現令見，命無垢現？欲顯居士助佛化者，尚示神通，況如來耶。又彼本土，令其自現，何假佛耶。又何簡自他，宜現便得。又欲顯菩薩皆生淨土，必有他受用身，知釋迦身為他權化，故令彼現，理亦無違。

Commentary: (2) The Buddha commands it to be shown. Why did the Tathāgata not display it to let them behold it, but commanded Vimalakīrti to display it? He wished to show that if a householder who assists the Buddha's transformation still displays supernormal powers, how much more so the Tathāgata! Furthermore, regarding that native land, having him display it himself, what need is there to rely on the Buddha? Furthermore, what distinction is there between self and other? Whatever is suitable to display may be done. Furthermore, he wished to show that all bodhisattvas are born in pure lands and must possess parasambhoga-kāyas; knowing that Śākyamuni's body is an expedient transformation for others, he therefore commanded him to display it, which also does not contradict principle.
