In this work as a whole there are fourteen chapters. The first chapter is the section explaining the causes and conditions. The following eleven chapters are the section presenting the fundamental tenet directly, which has already been explained above. The final two chapters are within the section on praising and entrusting for dissemination, which is divided into two: this chapter praises and disseminates, extolling both persons and Dharma to induce them to practice and learn; the subsequent 'Chapter on Entrustment' commits and entrusts for dissemination, committing it to Maitreya to propagate in future generations. If one does not extol supreme virtues, how could one encourage transmission to future generations? To offer what is required according to need is called gong (making offerings); to nurture and sustain bodily virtue is called yang (support). This applies generally to both material goods and Dharma: material goods are implements that sustain the body; Dharma is the instrument that fosters the Path. Material goods are the necessities of the immediate age, being beneficial in accordance with the present time; Dharma is the benefit for distant eras, serving as sustenance towards the attainment of the noble Path. Now, taking this supreme cause as its title, it encourages sentient beings to believe in and study it, abandoning inferior deeds, and assisting the Dharma-nature to uphold and practice it. This chapter sets this forth in full; hence it is named 'Chapter on Dharma Offerings'.
