贊曰：品段有三，初天帝讚揚、二世尊印述、後具陳往事勸發勝修。初中復四：初我獲希聞、二他資勝益、三敬養學者、四隨處勸說。此初也。往逢二聖，常聞妙法；今取勝境，實未曾聞。舊云「自在神通」，事勝也；「決定實相」，理勝也。利他自利，二為勝故。此為所詮，經是能詮。

Commentary: The section of this chapter has three parts: first, the Lord of the Gods praises it; second, the Bhagavat confirms and elaborates; finally, he sets forth past events in full to encourage and arouse supreme practice. In the first part there are again four: first, my obtaining of a rare hearing; second, others being sustained by supreme benefits; third, respectfully supporting practitioners; fourth, encouraging its preaching wherever one goes. This is the first. In the past, having met the two sages, I constantly heard the sublime Dharma; yet regarding this supreme realm now presented, truly I have never heard it before. Formerly it was rendered as 'unimpeded supernatural penetrations', which is the supremacy of phenomena; 'the definitive true mark' is the supremacy of principle. Both benefiting others and benefiting oneself are supreme. These are the signified, and the sūtra is the signifier.
