Commentary: Second, others being sustained by supreme benefits. There are two parts: first, if even practicing inferior deeds already makes one a vessel of the Dharma, how much more so with practicing supreme deeds—how could it not bring great benefit? Second, it explains the benefits of practicing supreme deeds. Inferior practices are six: first, hearing; second, believing and understanding, which is contemplating; third, receiving and upholding; fourth, reading; fifth, reciting; sixth, preaching it for others. Even these make one a vessel of the Dharma, a receptacle that cultivates the Dharma and establishes the Dharma. The above says that although hearing and contemplating are inferior causes, they already make one a vessel of the Dharma; how much more so for those who vigorously practice as it should be, practicing in accordance with the teachings! The tenth Dharma practice directly becomes the cause of Buddhahood, meaning that one acts in accordance with the teachings through the wisdom born of cultivation.
