贊曰：此說四依，有四句可知。如《涅槃經》廣配位次。亦如《瑜伽》第二帙說。義理可依，非文字故。智能決斷，非於識故。了義明顯，非密義故。法可軌摸，但緣於法。非依數取趣見之有所得，即使信也。

The Commentary says: This explains the four reliances; there are four phrases to be understood. As the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra extensively correlates them with stages, and as explained in the second fascicle of the Yogācārabhūmi. The meaning and principle are what should be relied upon, not the letter. Wisdom can make decisive judgment, not consciousness. The definitive meaning is explicit and clear, not provisional meaning. The Dharma can serve as a standard; one only takes the Dharma as object, not relying on a person seeing something to be attained and thereby giving faith.
