Commentary: Here there are two virtues: first, the virtue of leading and benefiting without exhaustion, because of accomplishing the teaching of the Dharma through the pāramitā of wisdom; second, the virtue of unimpeded deeds, because of definitively performing all the teachings, principles, practices, and fruits of the Mahāyāna. Bodhisattvas have four kinds of cultivation: 1. definitive cultivation; 2. thorough cultivation; 3. constant cultivation; 4. faultless cultivation. Fascicle 49 of the Bodhisattvabhūmi states that possessing these four cultivations yields the thirty-two marks. Here, one cultivation is mentioned, while the remaining three are implied, and so all are present. The old translation's 'resolute in the Mahāyāna' makes the intended meaning difficult to understand.
