Commentary: The interpretation in accordance with the principle of emptiness says that conventional truth has suffering because it has characteristics. Ultimate truth is signless; its nature is originally nonexistent; to ward off attachment to pleasure, it is spoken of as suffering. Therefore, being able to thoroughly penetrate that the principle of the five aggregates is empty and fundamentally has no place from which it arises is the meaning of true suffering. The interpretation in accordance with the principle of reality says: the emptiness of nature of the five aggregates is precisely tathatā; because it is the nature of the emptiness of the imagined nature (parikalpita), its nature is not empty. Thoroughly penetrating this principle, knowing that this original reality has no origin from which it arises, revealing the real based on expression, is called the meaning of suffering, because it is the reality of suffering.
