4.17

The Commentary says: Below, the revelation has three parts: first, explaining the conditioned and characteristic-bearing leaving of home; next, explaining the unconditioned and characteristicless leaving of home; and later, explaining the merits and advantages of the Mahāyāna leaving of home. This is the first text. What was previously explained for others as possessing the substantial characteristics of merit and supreme advantage is conditioned and possesses characteristics, and is not the ultimate truth.
