5.77

Commentary: Below are seven clauses, only not the same as the two vehicles. Therein are two divisions: the first three are practices of samādhi, and the latter four are other miscellaneous practices. This is the first. When the two vehicles contemplate śūnyatā, they have no further reliance or seeking; when the bodhisattva contemplates śūnyatā, they still seek virtues. When the two vehicles contemplate animitta, they do not externally transform sentient beings; when the bodhisattva contemplates animitta, they are able to externally transform sentient beings. When the two vehicles contemplate apraṇihita, they extinguish the realms of rebirth; when the bodhisattva contemplates apraṇihita, they manifest the realms of rebirth. 'Existence' refers to the three realms of existence, and 'destinies' refers to the five destinies; the older version says anabhisaṃskāra, which is apraṇihita.
