Commentary: Below are the instructions. There are three: first, instructing them to restrain their fragrance; next, instructing them to conceal their physical forms; finally, instructing them not to give rise to thoughts of inferiority regarding the world. Or, the first is concerning persons and the latter is concerning the world; hence there are instructions. The first has two instructions, and this is the first passage. In the Sahā evil realm, the air is foul and without fragrance; if they suddenly smell the ultimate fragrance, it is feared that they would develop intoxication, stupor, and craving attachment. Having fallen into intoxication and stupor, they would lack awareness and thus fall into heedlessness without exerting themselves.
