Second, citing proof: the 'Introduction' says, 'The Tathāgata roamed in the immeasurable, extremely profound dharmatā.' The 'Spirits Chapter' says, 'If one enters this sūtra, one enters dharmatā just as [one enters] deep dharmatā.' Since both passages say 'deep dharmatā', one knows that it is distinguished from the dharmatā attained by the two vehicles and bodhisattvas. The 'Chapter on Emptiness' says, 'Therefore this revered sūtra speaks of it in brief,' and speaking of emptiness is precisely suchness. The 'Chapter on Praising the Buddha' says, '[He] knows that existence is non-existent, originally and intrinsically empty and tranquil.' One must realise that these are all different names for the substance, and all converge into dharmatā. Dharma is a model, and nature is unchanging; because it is unchanging, it is eternally one. This eternally single dharmatā is the model of all buddhas; hence it is said that dharmatā is the substance of this sūtra.
