1.10

此經闕同聞眾者，謂時有五、處有四，耆山眾不聞信相室說、信相室眾不聞夢中說、夢中眾不聞夢覺已說，眾非一座故不列同聞。若爾，阿難不應稱我聞。然雖不聞，佛更為說。又其得佛覺三昧，能自通達，得稱我聞也。

This sūtra lacks a共同-listening assembly because there were five times and four places: the assembly on Mount Gṛdhra did not hear the discourse in Ruciraketu's chamber; the assembly in Ruciraketu's chamber did not hear the discourse in the dream; the assembly in the dream did not hear the discourse after awakening from the dream. Because the assemblies were not at a single session, a common-listening assembly is not listed. If so, Ānanda should not claim "Thus have I heard." However, although he did not hear it [then], the Buddha subsequently expounded it for him. Furthermore, because he attained the Buddha-Awakening Samādhi, he was able to comprehend it on his own, and thus could properly claim "Thus have I heard."
