6.23

第五結會古今者，昔佛疑魚數，樹神定判十千。今神疑行淺記深，佛為說妙因緣。今昔相關，是故結會也。

Fifth, the concluding synthesis of past and present: in the past, when the Buddha was doubtful of the number of fish, the tree deity definitively judged them to be ten thousand. Now the deity doubts that with shallow practices one could receive a profound prediction, and the Buddha expounds for her the subtle causes and conditions. Present and past are interrelated, and therefore they are synthetically joined.
