初、明述義異前。然前敘諸品豈出五義？以十七品唯談三法，總明別相及被物教。但為既從經品而敘名等不彰，故今明示《序品》經文備敘五義，使乎學者知此一經始末，唯詮名體宗用及教相耳，方知釋題搜盡經旨。

First, clarifying that the meaning set forth is different from before. Now, in previously setting forth the various chapters, how could it go beyond the five meanings? Because the seventeen chapters solely discuss the three dharmas, generally clarifying the specific characteristics and the teaching addressed to beings. However, because setting them forth according to the sūtra's chapters did not manifest the name and so forth, now it clearly shows that the sūtra text of the "Introductory Chapter" fully sets forth the five meanings, enabling practitioners to know that the beginning and end of this single sūtra solely elucidate the name, substance, gist, function, and characteristics of the teaching; only then will they know that explaining the title exhausts the sūtra's purport.
