釋題，二：初、正標題目。金等四字即所釋也，文句二字是能釋也。所釋經題，委在玄義。能釋文句者，文即經文，句謂章句，亦句逗也。即以章句節其經文，令其詮旨各有分齊。故荊谿云：「以由釋題，大義委悉，故至經文但粗分章段。題云文句，良由於此。」然立此二字，蓋謙辭耳。若觀釋經，大義非少。又解諸經皆稱文句，乃是通稱，故以經題簡之令別。

Explicating the title, in two [parts]: first, directly indicating the title. The four characters "Golden [Light Sūtra]" and so forth are that which is explicated; the two characters "Textual Commentary" are that which explicates. The explicated sūtra title is detailed in the Profound Meaning. As for "Textual Commentary" which explicates: "text" means the sūtra text; "commentary" (ju) refers to chapters and sentences (zhangju), and also pauses and punctuation. That is, using chapters and sentences to section the sūtra text, so that each of the expressed meanings has its own boundary. Therefore, Jingxi said: "Because the explication of the title explains the great meaning in detail, when coming to the sūtra text, one only roughly divides it into chapters and sections. That the title says 'Textual Commentary' is truly due to this." However, establishing these two characters is merely humble phrasing. If one examines the explication of the sūtra, the great meaning is by no means minor. Moreover, commentaries on various sūtras are all called "Textual Commentary"; this is a common designation, and therefore the sūtra title is used to distinguish and differentiate it.
