1.53

初、破異。欲彰衍理，先斥藏非。實有之俗而為能詮，不即真諦，故非如也；所詮之真不含中理，淺故非是。

First, refuting difference. Wishing to reveal the principle of the Mahāyāna, [the author] first censures the fault of the Tripiṭaka [Teaching]. The conventional [truth] of real existence serves as that which can express, but does not identify with the ultimate truth, and therefore is not 'thus'; the ultimate [truth] that is expressed does not contain the principle of the middle, and being shallow, it is therefore not 'right'.
