First, clarifying that because one possesses great wisdom, one can be drunk in principle. What is called great wisdom? It means understanding that the nature inherently contains the causes and effects of the nine realms, and therefore it is called the dharma gate of drinking liquor. True emptiness and ultimate reality, as in the single True Suchness nature in the Awakening of Faith, have two kinds of virtues: first, truly empty, because it does not correspond with afflictions numerous as the sands of the Ganges; second, truly not empty, because its essence inherently contains merits numerous as the sands of the Ganges, without lacking anything. Guarding against all faults, it is empty like a flask; its virtuous functions are unobstructed, hence it is not empty like liquor. However, the nature's virtues, numerous as the sands of the Ganges, are the harmonious dharma gates of the ten Dharma realms: the nine realms being the Buddha constitutes the preceding aspect of upholding; the Buddha realm being the nine constitutes the present aspect of breaking. Therefore, regarding the aspect of breaking, it says: "Transforming throughout the five destinies, proclaiming and roaring," which is just like the functioning of intoxication.
