First, dividing causes and conditions according to the three natures. Discussing the three generally, they are the primary, contributory, and revealing [causes], called the three causes. Residing together in the nature of principle, the cultivation, contributory, and revealing factors each have three as conditions. The present text concisely says 'what causes and what conditions'. One must combine the three of the nature, designating them simply as the 'primary', corresponding to the 'causes'. The contributory and revealing within cultivation combine the six into two; because they are paired with the cause, the two are combined into conditions, corresponding to 'conditions'. It is with respect to these causes and conditions that doubts arose.
