二「下方」下，特示中方為表。應化之事皆依理現，是故外事悉內表理，豈中方壽不表四德？佛意雖密，今智者師據後四佛約應顯常，故以所顯驗其能表，則知佛意。

Second, from 'The southern region' onward, specifically showing that the central region serves as an expression. Matters of responsive transformation all manifest based on principle; therefore, external matters all internally express principle. How could the lifespan of the central region not express the four virtues? Although the Buddha's intention is hidden, Master Zhiyi now relies on the subsequent four Buddhas' revealing the eternal through the responsive, and thus, by means of that which is revealed, verifies that which can express it, thereby knowing the Buddha's intention.
