初、對前辨異。前即經云「何因何緣」也。前釋既以正性為因，乃以修中緣了為緣。今云長壽有二因緣，既是佛修止行二善各具緣了，即是前文能顯之緣。今於前緣自作因緣，是故與前因緣異也。

First, distinguishing the difference from the preceding. 'The preceding' refers to the sūtra saying 'what causes and what conditions'. The previous explanation took the primary nature as the cause, and the contributory and revealing within cultivation as the conditions. Here it says that long life has two causes and conditions; since these are the two goods of cessation and practice cultivated by the Buddha, each endowed with the contributory and revealing, they are precisely the conditions that can reveal them mentioned in the earlier text. Now, with respect to those previous conditions, causes and conditions are formulated within themselves; therefore, this differs from the earlier causes and conditions.
